From Lifelong Passion to Powersports Business: Two Tired Garage Builds for Growth

Bowman – For Bondon Scott, working on engines has been part of life for as long as he can remember. Growing up, his family had dirt bikes and other equipment that was not always new, so learning how to fix things himself came naturally. That early interest eventually became a career in the powersports industry and a longtime goal of owning a shop of his own.

After high school, Bondon earned an associate degree in Powersports Technology and went directly into dealership work. When he later moved to Bowman, he saw an opportunity to put that experience to work for himself. In February 2024, he launched Two Tired Garage, providing parts and repair services primarily for motorcycles, ATVs, UTVs and other powersports equipment.

Turning Technical Experience into a Business

While Bondon knew the technical side of the industry, business ownership meant learning an entirely different set of skills. Bookkeeping, taxes, cash flow, and financing were now part of his responsibilities alongside the repair work.

While preparing to move to Bowman, Bondon learned about the ND SBDC from his mother-in-law. He connected with the ND SBDC Southwest Center and began working with Sarah Nagel as he prepared to start the business.

Sarah assisted Bondon with creating a complete business plan, developing financial projections and preparing for conversations with lending partners. As the business became established, their work continued with discussions about cash flow, growth and the feasibility of purchasing a commercial building.

“Finding money and managing the early financial risk of a business can be difficult, especially before a bank has a long operating history to review,” Bondon said. “The ND SBDC helped with opportunities, connections and finding resources and potential funding.”

As Bondon began considering a permanent location, Sarah worked with him to evaluate startup and operating costs and whether the business had enough consistent demand to support the investment.

“Bondon was very thoughtful and intentional about growth,” said Sarah Nagel. “Rather than rushing into a building purchase, he carefully evaluated whether the business had enough demand and financial stability to support the move.”

That planning paid off. In May 2026, Two Tired Garage purchased its own building in Bowman, marking an important next step for the growing business.

Building for the Next Stage

Since its launch, Two Tired Garage has developed a customer base that reaches well beyond Bowman, drawing customers from communities across western North Dakota, neighboring South Dakota and Montana. Much of that growth has come through word of mouth and support from both the local community and the broader powersports community.

For Bondon, one of the most rewarding changes from technician to business owner has been the opportunity to experience the full customer relationship. Instead of completing repair work behind the scenes, he can now follow a project from the time it enters the shop through completion and see the customer’s response firsthand.

The business is now busy enough that Bondon is considering adding employees in the future. He plans to keep Two Tired Garage focused primarily on repair and parts rather than becoming a dealership, while eventually building enough capacity to spend more of his own time on custom chopper projects.

What began as a lifelong interest in fixing engines has grown into a business with a permanent home, a regional customer base, and plans for the next stage of growth. Bondon continues to build Two Tired Garage thoughtfully, knowing he can return to the ND SBDC as new questions, opportunities, and growth decisions come along.
