Chester Fritz Library Updates

News and notes from UND's Chester Fritz Library

UND and Open Library of Humanities Collaboration

The University of North Dakota is now a supporting member of the Open Library of Humanities (OLH), a diamond open access publisher. Diamond open access is a form of open access publishing in which authors do not need to pay Article Processing Charges (APCs), and readers do not need to pay to read. The model works with libraries and other organizations to leverage their funds through consortia and other agreements to support the development of journals.

The Open Library of Humanities is an award-winning, academic-led, diamond open access publisher of 33 journals based at Birkbeck, University of London.  Many journals are indexed in the Directory of Open Access Journals, or DOAJ. At least six of the journals have an impact factor in Journal Citation Reports, considered one of the more rigorous journal ranking services. As the OLH receives more support, they are able to create additional journals. All journals are peer-reviewed.

The supporting membership aligns with the Chester Fritz Library’s value of Open, as we proudly support many forms of academic-led endeavors, equitable models, and sustainable publishing. We are very excited about being a supporting member of OLH, and we hope our faculty can take advantage of this opportunity.

Our collaboration with OLH is one of several CFL-funded opportunities for UND scholars to publish without the financial burden of APCs. If you have any questions about any of these publishing initiatives, please get in touch with Brittany Fischer, Social Sciences & Scholarly Communications Librarian, at brittany.fischer@UND.edu.
