Native Dancer: Jingle Updates Feb 2026
Author: Ariann Rousu – Native Dancer Digital Artist
Summary
The Native Dancer: Jingle Dress character has made significant progress over the last few months. Since the last update in mid‑summer, the new jingle dress shape has been fully developed and refined. The gown has been redesigned, equipped with 365 jingles, re-meshed, and textured in Substance 3D. The character herself remains the same as the previously created version, but she is now fully dressed in the updated gown. The next step in the process will be retargeting her to the Jingle animation.
Refining the Jingles
Since the last update, I completed the full count of 356 jingles and added them across the entire jingle dress attire. Each jingle was simulated and carefully positioned so they do not touch one another this will help prevent unwanted collisions once the character is animated. I also reduced the poly count on every jingle to make them more efficient and lighter on computational resources, ensuring smoother performance during simulation and rendering.
Texturing
I completed all texturing for the jingles and the full gown in Substance 3D Painter. This included adding realistic fabric textures to the dress and detailed metal materials to each jingle. During this process, I was also able to incorporate ribbon details directly into the texture maps. Texturing these elements instead of modeling them helps keep the poly count low and reduces computing demands during rendering, while still maintaining a high level of visual detail.
Putting it all together
The preview shown in this blog is a screenshot from Character Creator 4, where the jingle dress character was originally built and refined. With the gown, jingles, and textures now complete, the next step is to export the character from CC4 and begin importing her into Unreal Engine, Maya, and other tools in my pipeline. From there, I’ll continue developing the character with motion, testing how the new dress behaves during animation and starting the process of bringing her movements to life.
