Native Dancer: MOVIN TRACIN Workshop
Author: Ariann Rousu – Native Dancer Digital Artist
Summary
Throughout February, I had the opportunity to work with a demo unit of the MOVIN TRACIN. MOVIN TRACIN is a motion capture system that hosted this hands on workshop. This led to the development of a full “live performance” 3D environment featuring original music, performers, and an animated audience. With the demo period over, I’ve sent back the MOVIN TRACIN, ending a creative, and productive month of experimentation. The overall extra work with animation, and Unreal Game Engine has strengthened my own skillset, and will benefit Native Dancer.

MOVIN Workshop Highlights
The workshop highlighted MOVIN TRACIN’s core strengths, emphasizing its advanced LiDAR‑based body‑tracking technology designed for motion‑capture professionals. Introducing participants to the system’s overall capabilities, ease of use, portability, and future development plans. MOVIN TRACIN captures full‑body movement through real‑time point‑cloud data, enabling accurate tracking with minimal equipment.
The session showcased the integration of the technology into live event settings. Including live streaming and performances, where it enhanced visual effects in real time. Additionally, the workshop demonstrated multiple MOVIN units being used simultaneously to record two performers at once. Overall, the simplicity, flexibility, and accuracy stood out as its most impressive features.
Native Dancer and MOVIN
As the Native Dancer Project continues, one of our key goals is to integrate pose‑matching, and movement‑based scoring into gameplay. MOVIN TRACIN’s LiDAR‑based tracking technology makes it a strong candidate for developing and testing these features. By linking characters with body tracking, dancers could eventually interact with the game through their physical movements rather than a traditional controller. This approach supports our long‑term vision of merging cultural expression, live performance, into a unified interactive experience.
