Librarian’s Essential Toolbox – Selections

Are you looking for effective tools to save time? The following is a short (and by no means exhaustive…) list of key resources that librarians at SMHS depend on for quick information and increased productivity.

Essential Resources

Library Research Guides

SMHS librarians have created Research Guides on a range of topics. Here are a few highlights…

  • Check out the discipline-specific guide for your program. You’ll find key tools and resources, contact information for your specialist librarian, and more.
  • Struggling to critically appraise that research study? Start at the Statistics – explanations and formulas research guide for quick explanations, examples, and instructional videos of more than 40 statistical concepts (i.e. forest plots, NNT, odds ratios, P value, etc.).
  • Visit the research guide for your clerkship to find linked textbooks, Shelf Exam study materials, assignment-focused resources, and more.
  • Do you have questions about submitting your manuscript, open access, copyright and creative commons licensing? Find these answers and more on the Scholarly Publishing research guide!

Increased Productivity

Zotero

If you’re still using a web-based citation creator, it’s time to up your game. Citation managers also create citations with a click, but they do much, MUCH more! Try Zotero to collect and organize citations for multiple projects, upload and store article PDFs, and format (and reformat!) in-text citations and bibliographies to multiple style with a few clicks.

Rayyan

Do you need to sort a bunch of articles and apply inclusion / exclusion criteria? Try Rayyan! It’s a free (with optional purchased upgrades) product that you can use for an individual project or to collaborate with your research team.

LibKey Nomad

Do you want to connect to article full text fast? Do you search in Google Scholar or other open search interfaces? Then you need LibKey Nomad! LibKey Nomad is a browser extension (available for most browsers) that auto-magically links to SMHS library’s online journal subscriptions no matter where you’re searching.
