“An Overview of the Northwood EF4 Tornado on August 26, 2007”
(Grand Forks, North Dakota): David Kellenbenz, Lead Forecaster from the National Weather Service (NWS) Forecast Office in Grand Forks will present a seminar titled, “An Overview of the Northwood EF4 Tornado on August 26, 2007″ in Clifford Hall (Room 210) at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 4. The seminar is free and open to the public. All faculty, staff and students are invited to attend.
Abstract:
A devastating tornado struck the community of Northwood, North Dakota on the evening of August 26, 2007, killing one person and injuring 18. A meteorological overview of this historic event, including detailed radar and photos of the aftermath, will be presented.
About Atmospheric Sciences: In addition to the Ph.D. program, the Department of Atmospheric Sciences offers a Bachelor of Science, a Master of Science, and an undergraduate minor program in Atmospheric Sciences. Research areas of interest include atmospheric chemistry, surface transportation meteorology, radar meteorology, climate analysis, cloud physics, radiation, ground- and satellite-based remote sensing, aviation meteorology, hydrometeorology, mesoscale meteorology, data assimilation, numerical weather prediction, and weather modification. The Atmospheric Sciences department has played a major role in research for a number of Federal and state agencies, including the DOE, NASA, NDARB, FHWA, USDA, and DOD.
