First of Spring Colloquium Series Features Marc Cohen

The Spring 2012 Space Studies Colloquium Series focuses on the general theme “Consequences of a Growing Dependency on Space Technology ” and will feature several leading experts in the field.

The first presentation in this series will feature Marc Cohen, of Cohen Astrotecture, Consulting and Design, Palo Alto, California

Topic:  Space Habitats: An Overview of Simulations, Analogs, Pressure Chambers, and Development Technologies

Date:  Tuesday, February 21st, 2012

Time:  4:00 p.m.

Location:  Ryan Hall, Room 111

About the Topic:  This presentation offers a common frame of reference for understanding full scale mockups and simulators for human spacecraft.  Mockups and Simulators have a range of objectives and purposes, including:

  • Concept evaluation,
  • Design research,
  • Engineering integration
  • Operations simulation and development, and
  • Crew Training.

These purposes are not mutually exclusive, but can co-exist or overlap in the same mockup or simulator.

About the Speaker:

Marc M. Cohen is a licensed architect who has devoted his career to design research and development

in aerospace, particularly human spaceflight. He took early retirement from NASA Ames Research Center

after 26 years in 2005 and then worked for Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems for 4.5 years. Now,

Marc is starting a consulting and design practice — Marc M. Cohen, Architect P.C, a California
