Family Law Clinic and Family Law Course Students Tour Grand Forks County Courthouse

The Family Law Clinic organized a tour of the Grand Forks County Courthouse for its students, with students from the Family Law course also invited to attend. Deputy Clerk CJ Osborn led the group through the courthouse.

The tour included visits to courtrooms, where students learned about the various types of proceedings conducted throughout the courhouse, including jury trials, civil trials, criminal initial appearances, and criminal in-custody appearances.

Students also observed the technology used to support courtroom proceedings, including simultaneous translation services provided for non-English-speaking parties and witnesses.Students received an overview of the courthouse’s history as well. The group learned about the naming of Courtroom 109 in honor of Judge Jahnke and, on the third floor, viewed a gallery featuring portraits of past and current judges.

In addition, students were introduced to the functions of the Clerk’s Office, staff attorneys, and judges, providing a comprehensive overview of courthouse operations.

The courthouse visit reflects the Family Law Clinic’s ongoing commitment to providing students with direct exposure to the judicial system in which they will practice. The Family Law Clinic is grateful to Deputy Clerk CJ Osborn and the Clerk’s Office for welcoming the students and taking the time to share their knowledge and experience.
