November 2022: Marching Toward #VetBiz Success National Veteran Small Business Week 2022

National Veteran Small Business Week is here, and we look forward to honoring and celebrating the contributions veterans have made to small businesses across the nation. During the week of October 31-November 4, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and their resource partners, like VBOC of the Dakotas, PTAC, SBDC, WBC, and SCORE, will provide emphasized support for veterans looking to enter the world of business ownership.

This year, we will focus on celebrating the strength and resilience of the veteran and military small business community as they continue to march beyond the events of the pandemic and use what they’ve learned over the past few years to propel their businesses forward!

As the Veterans Business Outreach Center of the Dakotas, servicing the states of North and South Dakota, we are a one-stop shop for service members, veterans, and military spouses looking to start, purchase, or grow a business. Located nationwide, VBOCs provide training workshops, including Boots to Business and Boots to Business Reboot programs, and business development assistance, such as training, advising, mentoring, and resource referrals.

We are excited to host several in-person and virtual training events in North and South Dakota. Here is a look into the NVSBW calendar for 2022:

VOSB Verification will Transfer from VA to SBA in 2023

Beginning January 1, 2023, VA’s Center for Verification and Evaluation will be transferred to the Small Business Administration. As a CVE-verified business, you will need to keep your verification active and renew your status according to CVE requirements. So…what does this mean for your business?

Self-certified SDVOSBs generally should not seek verification with VA. After the transfer date of January 1, 2023, and before January 1, 2024, a self-certified SDVOSB should submit its application to SBA. This will enable the firm to take advantage of the grace period. Start-up firms and new entrants into the field of government contracting will need to consider what makes the most sense according to their business. If they intend to do business with VA as SDVOSBs, they needed to initiate their application for verification by October 24th; if they intend to do business with other agencies, they should consider self-certifying in SAM until the transfer date of January 1, 2023.
