Swanson also worked as a reporter and writer for the Grand Forks Herald, covering the North Dakota Legislature, among other beats.

In 2007, Swanson joined The Hill as a reporter covering Congress and international trade. He was later promoted to his current job of editor-in-chief, a role in which he’s responsible for the day-to-day operations of The Hill’s newsroom, including the print issue and online coverage.
