Goehring named director of REA Hockey Academy

Ralph Engelstad Arena is pleased to announce that Karl Goehring has been named Director of the Hockey Academy at the Arena, effective July 14.

“Karl has great passion for the game, exceptional people-skills, and a wealth of professional hockey experience, both as a player and a coach. We’re very pleased to add him to our team and very pleased to have him take over the leadership position with the Hockey Academy,” said Jody Hodgson, general manager of Ralph Engelstad Arena. “Karl enjoyed a long and successful career as a player, has professional coaching experience and both situations will serve him well in his new role. We welcome Karl back to the community and look forward to continuing to grow the Hockey Academy with him at the helm.”

As director, Goehring will be responsible for management of the Hockey Academy and will direct the efforts of all Hockey Academy staff members.

Goehring played four seasons with the Fighting Sioux and was a key contributor on the 2000 National Championship team. During his collegiate career, Goehring was named an All-American in 1999-2000, an Academic All-American on two occasions, and was a member of the 2000 NCAA Tournament All-Star Team. Following his collegiate career, Goehring played eight seasons of professional hockey and remains the all time wins leader for the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League, the top farm team of the Columbus Blue Jackets. Most recently, Goehring spent the 2009-2010 season as an assistant coach with Syracuse.
