Remembering Archie Nathan Hill

Archie Nathan Hill, 84, of Iron, Minn., died Wednesday, Aug. 18, while on a nature walk in a park in Virginia, Minn.

Archie was born on May 24, 1926, to Floyd and Josephine (Halverson) Hill in Gary, S.D. Upon graduating from the Gary high school, he joined the Army. After receiving an honorable discharge for his service in World War II, he began his formal education. His first job in the education field was as the superintendant of schools in Trenton, S.D. In the early 1960s, Archie was hired as a professor of journalism at UND. After teaching at UND for several years, he moved to northern Minnesota, where he began his career as vice president of Arrowhead Community Colleges. While at Arrowhead Community College he started the Happy Trails Tour Company. He led many motorcoach tours across the United States, including more than 50 trips to Branson, Mo. As you can see, Archie had been involved in the education field all of his adult life. Most recently, he organized many fundraisers to support local scholarships. Archie had received many awards and recognitions for his work in the education field.
