Remembering Milton Stai

Milton Stai, 73, former supervisor of the carpenter shop, died Wednesday, Aug. 25, in his East Grand Forks home under hospice care.

Stai was born Nov. 19, 1936, to Oscar and Martha (Koppang) Stai in International Falls, Minn. He grew up and attended school in Bemidji. He graduated from Bemidji High School and worked with his father at B Square Builders. He was married July 29, 1961, to Beverly Larson, in Kennedy, Minn. In 1972, he moved to East Grand Forks and worked for Plywood Dakota. In 1982 he began working at the UND as a carpentry foreman in Plant Services until 2004.

He is survived by his wife; his daughters, Debra (Robert) Schieffer, Moorhead, Minn., Kari (Conrad) Hapka, Grand Forks; three grandchildren; brothers, Ronald (Darlyne) Stai, San Antonio, Texas, Jerry (Carol) Stai, Burnsville, Minn., Merlyn (Judy) Stai, Bemidji, Minn., and Dean Stai, of Hudson Oaks, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Allen and Orvin Stai, and an infant brother.
