Participants sought for research study on healthy lifestyle

Participants are sought for the Healthy Creations research study.

The USDA-ARS Grand Forks Human Nutrition Research Center is evaluating the Healthy Creations program. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups: Intervention—taking Healthy Creations classes Jan. 12-March 2, or Control—with a delayed start for Healthy Creations classes.

Healthy Creations is a weight loss program designed to educate participants on proper nutrition and exercise, as well as providing tools for behavior modification. The program consists of weekly meetings with a registered dietitian and a certified personal trainer. They will help to provide you with support, motivation and accountability.

The Intervention group will meet Wednesdays, Jan. 12 through March 2, at 6:50 p.m. at Center Court Fitness Club. The Control group will meet once for a class on “A Healthier You: Based on the Dietary Guidelines for Americans.”  All research-related visits – including blood draws, body composition measures, fitness assessment, and food diary review appointments – will be held at the Grand Forks Human Nutrition Research Center.

We are seeking overweight men and women age 18 to 75. Participants will be screened and then placed randomly into one of two groups (an intervention group and a control group to take Healthy Creations classes later in 2011). To apply, go to www.ars.usda.gov/npa/gfhnrc or call 701-795-8400.
