Summer Programs and Events Council awards mini-grants to 9 programs

UND’s Summer Programs and Events Council (SPEC) recently awarded $25,891 in mini-grants to nine camps and programs to aid in the expansion, redesign, and creation of their summer courses and programs. The Start-Up Mini-Grant Program funding is used to support UND faculty and staff in the development, marketing and start-up costs of summer on-campus programming.

The Summer 2011 awarded projects are:

  • Photography for Educators, Teaching and Learning – 3rd year funding
    Lars Helgeson, professor, Teaching and Learning
  • Summer Foreign Language Day Camps, Language Department – 3rd year funding
    Amanda Boyd, assistant professor, Languages
  • MATLAB, Mathematics, and Engineering Camp, Engineering Department – 2nd year funding
    Reza Fazel-Rezai and Sima Noghanian, assistant professors, Electrical Engineering
  • Alice Computer Animation and Storytelling Camp – 2nd year funding
    Tom Stokke, instructor, Computer Science
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Professional Role Development Department, College of Nursing – 1st year funding
    Kevin Buettner, clinical assistant professor, College of Nursing
    Stephanie Christian, clinical associate professor, College of Nursing
  • Experience Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Department – 1st year funding
    Matthew Cavalli, assistant dean for Outreach and Recruitment, School of Engineering and Mines/chair, Mechanical Engineering
  • Conflict Transformation Certificate, Conflict Resolution Center and Department of Psychology – 1st year funding
    Kristine Paranica, director, Conflict Resolution Center
  • UND Rural Collaborative Opportunities for Occupational Learning in Health (R-COOL-Health) Scrubs Academy, Rural Health – 1st year funding
    Lynette Dickson, State Office of Rural Health director
  • North Dakota All Star Band, Music Department and Pride of the North Marching Band – 1st year funding
    Janice Hoffarth, administrative assistant, Music
    William Robert Brooks, associate director of Bands/Pride of the North Marching and Athletic Bands

The Summer Programs and Events Council’s mission is to promote all summer events, programs, and courses to the greater Grand Forks community and beyond while providing leadership and logistical support for summer programming on the UND campus.
