Communication Program plans fall colloquium series

The Communication Program will host a fall colloquium series from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in 16-18 Swanson Hall. Dates and speakers follow.

Thursday, Oct. 13, William Buxton, Concordia University, Montreal, will present “Harold Innis’ History of Communications’ Project: The First Comprehensive Account of Media History?”  He will discuss the significance of an unpublished manuscript of the great Canadian scholar, Harold Innis.

Thursday, Nov. 10, Charlotte Klesman, doctoral candidate, Communication and Public Discourse, will present “Communication Surroundings Stewardship of Voyageurs National Park.”  She will discuss how people living in the Rainy River drainage basin describe stewardship and environmental ethics in relation to the land.

Tetiana Vaskivska, master’s candidate, Communication, will present
“Muslim Visibility in Catalonia: Face Veil Veto and its Cultural Interpretation in Media.” She will focus on the role that Spanish journalists play in the public debate on the prohibition to wear a burqa for Islamic women.

Thursday, Dec. 8, Timothy Pasch, assistant professor, Communication, will present  “The UND QR Quest: Incentivizing Student Engagement with QR Code Technology.”  He will discuss a technology-based game that took place at UND Aug. 19-29, 2011. Discussion centers on the theoretical rational and technical implementation behind the research design, discussion of the game itself and analysis of the data gathered.

Rich McFarlane, master’s candidate, Communication, will present “Performance Anxiety and Self – Confidence in Students: The Case of Grand Forks Summer Performing Arts Campaign”
