Remembering Joanne Baglien

Joanne Laree Baglien, 81, Strongsville, Ohio, and formerly of Grand Forks, died Jan. 9, 2014 at Southwest General Hospice in Strongsville, Ohio.  joanne-baglien

Joanne Tobiason was born Jan. 1, 1933, at Crookston, Minn., to Adolph and Georgia (Trump) Tobiason. She lived in Gilby, Hatton, and moved to Grand Forks in 1944. She graduated from Central High School and the University of North Dakota College of Nursing. After college, Joanne worked at the Fergus Falls State Hospital from 1954 to 1957. In Fergus Falls she met Alton Baglien and they were married on Aug. 26, 1956 in Grand Forks. They moved to Grand Forks in 1957. Joanne worked at the University of North Dakota College of Nursing from 1980 to 1993, when she retired. She earned her M.S. in Counseling in 1987. Joanne was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and was active in various professional and community organizations both in Grand Forks and Mesa, Ariz.

She is survived by two sons, Brent (Susan), Potomac, Md., Brian (Lori), Grand Forks; daughter, Bethann (Guy) Farish, Brunswick, Ohio; five granddaughters; and one grandson. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents. Joanne was a remarkable lady, kind and thoughtful with all that she came in contact with. She was a great mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by all.
