Remembering Donald Croeker

Donald Croeker, Instructor/Advisor for TRIO Talent Search, died Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at his Grand Forks home of natural causes.  He was 60.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Don was born Jan. 4, 1954, to Cephus and Evelyn (Peterson) Croeker in Roseau, Minn. He graduated from Roseau High School and attended the University of North Dakota, graduating with a degree in Political Science. Don married Jane M. Olson on Aug. 16, 1975. He attended the University of Iowa and attained a Masters of Public Administration and he completed studies at Moorhead State for a Secondary Education degree. Don started his teaching career in Grygla, Minn., and taught Social Studies in the Grand Forks school system for many years. He was awarded North Dakota Social Studies Teacher of the Year. Most recently he worked for UND as an instructor/advisor for TRIO talent search.

Don was an avid musician, performing at Grand Cities Art Fest, Celebrate the Night, and other local events. Jamming with friends was a favorite pastime. He recorded a CD of his original guitar and vocal compositions, titled “A Month of Saturdays.” He also enjoyed birding, fishing, boating, and frequent trips in summer and winter to the family cabin at Lake of the Woods, Minn.

Don is survived by his wife of 38 years, Jane Olson Croeker, who works at UND as Director of Health & Wellness Promotions; sons, Anthony Croeker, Salol, Minn., and Dylan Croeker, Minneapolis; sister, Lynda Croeker Rivinius, Billings, Mont., and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He will be greatly missed by his large extended family and remembered always for his humor.

Celebration of Life: 11 a.m. Monday, June 2, 2014 in the historic Norman Funeral Home, 2950 S. Washington St., Grand Forks.
