Expert on professional development for teachers speaks March 30

The College of Education & Human Development will play host to a leading expert in the professional development of teachers — especially teacher inquiry/action research — on Wednesday, March 30, as part of the College’s AAA Lecture Series (Educate Anyone..Anytime..Anywhere).

Nancy Fichtman Dana, a professor of education in the School of Teaching and Learning in the College of Education at the University of Florida, will present “The Role of Teacher Inquiry in Teacher Education,” at 4 p.m., in the UND Education Building, Room 7, on campus.

Dana’s presentation is supported by a the Danley Professorship Endowment. The AAA Lectures are free and open to the public.

About the speaker
After earning her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from the State University of New York, Dana began her career as an elementary school teacher in Hannibal Central Schools, New York, where she taught grades 3-6.

Since earning her Ph.D. from Florida State University in 1991, Dana has been a passionate advocate for teacher inquiry in her appointments as a faculty member at Pennsylvania State University and the University of Florida. She has worked with numerous schools and districts across the United States and abroad to craft professional development programs of inquiry as well as conducted extensive research on the process. She has published 10 books and more than 60 articles in leading professional journals and edited books focused on teacher and principal professional development and practitioner inquiry.

Dana has received many honors including the Association of Teacher Educator’s Distinguished Research in Teacher Education Award and the National Staff Development Council (NSDC) Book of the Year Award.
