Remembering Phyllis Felchle

Phyllis Catherine (McGuire) Felchle, former UND Parking staff member, 85, passed away peacefully in the early morning of Saturday, Nov. 5, 2022, at NC Little Hospice House in Edina, Minn.

Phyllis was born on Feb. 3, 1937, to Joseph and Catherine (Nogosek) McGuire in Kensal, N.D. She graduated from Kensal High School in 1955. Phyllis dated the love of her life, Dean Felchle, through high school. They married on April 30, 1956 in Kensal, N.D. and were blessed with six children. Their first born, conjoined twin boys died at birth on Dec. 20, 1957. Dean almost lost Phyllis during their birth. Phyllis and Dean lived in Harvey, Linton, Fargo and Bemidji before moving to Grand Forks and making it their home in 1970.

Phyllis and Dean were active members of Holy Family Catholic Church for many years while living in Grand Forks. Phyllis was an excellent cook and could also bake anything to perfection. She always made sure there was a hot meal on the dinner table which had to include meat, potatoes, vegetables and dessert. She was particular about having a clean house, loved to shop and had more than one full closet to prove it. Phyllis enjoyed getting together with family and friends. She loved going to church and saying the rosary.

Phyllis retired from the UND Parking office in 1999. Dean passed on Feb. 22, 2001. In 2002, a tumor was discovered in her heart and she underwent heart surgery to have it removed. After surgery, Phyllis’s life changed forever when she lost the ability to take care of herself. Although her independence was taken away, she fought hard to keep going. She kept a good sense of humor, and was a trooper. Phyllis was very grateful to her daughters for the loving care over the years. She was loved and will be missed. “God could not be everywhere, and therefore He made mothers.”

She is survived by: three daughters and one son: Julie (Alonzo) Guzman, Grand Forks; KayLynn (Chad) Bergland, East Grand Forks, Minn.; Mary Will (Gary Lindsay), Plymouth, Minn.; Jeff Felchle, Grand Forks. Sisters, JoAnn (David) Vining; Bismarck, N.D.; Connie (Earl) Behm; Valley City, N.D.; ten grandchildren, Christie, LaRae, Brandon, Danica, Alyssa, Jordan, Lacy, Nicholas, Garrett, and Jack; eleven great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Ellsworth (Shirley) Felchle, Redfield, S.D.; and a sister-in-law, Sherry McGuire, Jamestown, N.D.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, husband Dean, twin sons Joseph and John, brothers Darwin and James and sister Marlys.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2022, at 1 p.m., at Amundson Funeral Home with visitation beginning one hour prior. Interment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery.
