VIDEO: Medication-Delivering Drones with BuzzCare
Editor’s Note: The following video is a part of a series documenting the impressive discoveries and innovations showcased at the 2026 Senior Design Expo. The series will extend from May through August, with a new video released every Wednesday, and can be watched on YouTube.
In this video, UND mechanical engineering student Alejandro Urrutia explains the mission behind BuzzCare: to connect rural communities with reliable access to their medications. Where does the University of North Dakota fit into that mission? BuzzCare has sponsored a UND team’s senior design project, challenging Alejandro and his fellow students in designing a system to deliver medications via drones. Together, they hope to one day bridge rural communities to critical medications, supporting accessible healthcare for those without immediate access to a pharmacy. Through the UND College of Engineering & Mines’ Collaborative Experiences program, companies like BuzzCare can apply to support senior design projects while challenging students to solve real-world engineering challenges.
