Celebrating 100 years of Chemical Engineering

This fall will mark 100 years of Chemical Engineering at UND. The community is invited to celebrate this milestone during Homecoming Week.

Leaders in Chemical Engineering since 1926.

From its earliest years, the UND Department of Chemical Engineering shaped the university and played a significant role on campus.

A century later, it built something larger than any single era: a department defined by generations — moving the profession of chemical engineering forward and shaping its engineers, researchers and leaders.

That thread, unbroken since 1926, is what a 100th anniversary is really about.

The UND Department of Chemical Engineering invites you to celebrate 100 years of education, discovery and impact. Join the community of alumni, students, faculty and friends that define our history and fuel our momentum during this centennial celebration.

The event will feature a short program followed by light refreshments and a tour.

Part of the fun of any 100th anniversary is the photographs and memories, and the Department of Chemical Engineering’s history offers no shortage of good ones. Attendees will get a keepsake booklet authored by Chester Fritz Distinguished Professor Wayne Seames. Flipping through the photos featured inside will feel less like a history lesson and more like meeting old friends for the first time.

“UND Chemical Engineering is a special department characterized by a close faculty-student relationship, extraordinary teaching, and world-class research. From its beginnings, the department has had an outsized influence on the College and the University, including a significant role in the birth of the lignite coal industry and the Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC),” says Seames in his foreword.
