In the Vault: What to Do When a Vendor Requests UND’s Banking Information

When a vendor asks for UND’s banking information to send a payment to UND by ACH, it’s important to slow down and verify before sending anything to the vendor. Protecting the University’s financial data is a shared responsibility!

Before Sharing Banking Information

• Contact UND.treasury@UND.edu and request the current banking information.
• Know who you’re talking to. Departments should make sure the request comes from a contact they already work with, not a new or unfamiliar name. This helps reduce the risk of phishing attempts.
• Set expectations with the vendor. Vendors must understand that UND does not allow auto‑debits from its bank account under any circumstances.

If anything feels off, pause and ask questions. It’s always better to double‑check than to send sensitive information to the wrong place.
