Dean’s Colloquium for fourth-years to be held on Wed., May 5
Given that the Dean’s colloquium for MS4 students will be held on Wednesday, May 5, 2021, I wanted to update you on some of the activities for the day that we hope will be meaningful and, more importantly, useful as you transition to residency.
I have first scheduled SMHS Dean Joshua Wynne to speak with you at 10 a.m. that morning. I know that he is looking forward to interacting with you, albeit via Zoom. I have also arranged to end the day with a panel of current residents, who are training in various specialties and have volunteered their time to help answer some of your questions and concerns about this transition. To help the panel organize and prepare for the Colloquium, Bethany will soon be sending you a Qualtrics survey so that you can anonymously ask questions about your residency transition. So, be on the lookout for that email and be thinking of some questions to ask the panel.
Also, there was an idea to prepare a “fun slide,” like the old Friday PCL/TBL presentations. Remember those? It was suggested to make the subject matter about you very broad. For example, life updates, recent vacations, where are you going, how you want to be remembered, photo collage, etc. Therefore, please send one-PowerPoint “fun slide” about yourself to saa@und.edu and we will put all slides together into one file to share with the class and run in a loop at an appropriate time during the Colloquium.
Finally, congratulations on a very successful Match. It was very exciting for me to see where all of you will be going for your residency training, and I am very proud of everyone.
All the best,
Jim Porter, Ph.D.
