Odds & ends: Medical student health insurance, SMHS notary public, Second Look Day

Health Insurance

Are you turning 26?

Medical students are required to maintain health insurance coverage throughout medical school. However, if your current health coverage is through your parents (or anyone else who claims you as a dependent), that coverage ends on the day you turn 26, per the Affordable Care Act.

If you need to sign up for a new health insurance plan, contact the North Dakota Navigator program.

For more information about affordable health insurance plans or to request enrollment assistance, contact one of our local N.D. Navigators at 1.800.233.1737 or 701.858.3580. You may also send an email to NDNavigators@MinotStateU.edu or complete the Contact Form to be connected to a Navigator in your region.

The UND School of Medicine & Health Sciences provides long-term disability insurance for medical students. This coverage will provide benefits should a disability develop in a student while enrolled at medical school as well as a guarantee that, upon graduation, students will be able to obtain group coverage, without having to prove medical insurability, providing protection for future income. This benefit is provided through The Guardian. If you have questions on the policy, please contact the SMHS Office of Administration & Finance.

Second Look Day

Our team will host another Second Look event on April 12, 2024. Many prospective students will be in our School that day, so please introduce yourself and make them feel welcome. Alyssa Montgomery, our admissions officer, will reach out for help from current students for this event, so watch your email or reach out to Alyssa at saa@UND.edu to volunteer.
