SMHS Student Affairs & Admissions News

Class of 2029

REMEMBER: update your address and any name changes ASAP!

Excused absences

Do you need to submit an Excused Absence Request? The process is very simple and, better still, it’s automated and paperless! Just complete the “Phase 1 Excused Absence Request” form. Once you click “Submit,” the request will automatically be sent to the Office of Student Affairs and Admissions. You will normally be approved without question for illness or medical appointments. For other significant events (e.g. marriage), the Associate Dean for Student Affairs, will make a decision and may contact you for additional information. When your request is approved, an email will be sent to you and all concerned members of staff and faculty. This email will also have two hyperlinks to take you to the Absence Remediation PowerForm, to document your make-up work. This must be completed within 14 calendar days of the absence. An automated reminder will be generated and emailed to you after 12 days. If you have already completed the Absence Remediation requirements, please disregard this automated reminder email.

Once you all are promoted to Phase 2, you will use the excused absence process outlined in Policy 4.18.

Annual Student Engagement Survey (ASES)

The ASES is coming up! Just like last year, there will be an incentive program, meaning that if 90% of your class completes the survey, your entire class will be gifted a piece of UND merchandise. This year, classes are eligible for a quarter zip sweatshirt! Information is forthcoming via email. Please complete this anonymous survey in a timely manner. The SMHS Administration uses your feedback it to improve the program for future students. We really appreciate your engagement in program improvements!

Admissions update

Big thanks to those who helped make acceptance calls this admissions cycle. The applicants are incredibly appreciative of your investment in their journeys, and we really feel that you are a big part of their life changing forever! We really appreciate your involvement in all recruitment or admissions processes!

Jury duty

Did you receive a summons for jury duty, and aren’t sure how you can do your civic duty and keep up with your studies at the same time? Worry no more! Provide a copy of the summons and any other paperwork you received to Bethany Reck in the Office of Student Affairs and Admissions, and we will send a letter to the Clerk of Court requesting you be excused for the current term of the court. Bethany is the SAA Administrative Secretary, located in Suite W101. You can email paperwork to her at bethany.reck@UND.edu.
