Remembering Connie Borboa

ConnieborboaIt is with regret that we announce the death of Connie Borboa, admissions and records officer in the Registrar’s Office, on Friday, Jan. 7, at Altru Hospital.  She was 58.
Connie Rae Johnson was born June 28, 1952, in Bottineau to Vernon and Mildred (Ferley) Johnson.  She grew up in Overly, N.D., where she graduated from Willow City High School and attended the University of North Dakota. She was a University of North Dakota alumna and Sioux Booster.

She married Mario Borboa of Los Angeles, Calif., on May 12, 1973, in Overly.  They resided in Larimore.   A member of the UND family for 38 years, she was a valued employee and Meritorious Award recipient.  Her husband, Mario, is an information support technician in the information resources office at the School of Medicine and Health Sciences.

Connie enjoyed serving others, reading, walking, and Twins baseball. She loved spending time with her husband, children, and two grandchildren. She traveled to many places including Moab, Utah, where she completed a half marathon in October 2009.

Connie is survived by her husband, Mario Borboa, Larimore; children, Kayne (Tricia) Borboa, Grand Forks, Stacey (Darrin) Peterson, Grand Forks, Kasey (Betsy) Borboa, East Grand Forks; grandchildren, Karter and Levi; brothers, Wayne (Holly) Johnson, Bottineau, Gary (Diane) Johnson, Fargo; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her stepfather, Leonard Johnson, mother, Mildred (Ferley) Johnson, and father, Vernon Johnson.

Funeral services are set for 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 14, at the Bible Baptist Church, 6367 Gateway Drive, in Grand Forks.

Visitation is Thursday, Jan. 13, from 5-7 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service at Amundson Funeral Home, 2975 S. 42nd St., in Grand Forks.  Visitation will continue for the hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment will be in the spring at Overly Cemetery in Rolette County.
