Remembering George LaMora

George F. LaMora, altitude chamber technician in the aviation department, passed away Tuesday, April 3, at his home in Grand Forks.  He was 65.

George Francis LaMora was born June 15, 1946, in Watertown, N.Y., to George and Gloria (Shaffner) LaMora.  He grew up in Massena, N.Y., and graduated from Massena High School in 1964.  He enlisted in the United States Navy and served as a medical corpsman for three tours of duty in Vietnam.  He retired from military service on Oct. 31, 1989, at Whildbey Island, Wash., with the rank of chief petty officer.

LaMora married Veronica Flores Gallardo on Dec. 6, 1975, in Las Vegas.  Following their marriage, they lived where George was stationed in the United States Navy.  They moved to Grand Forks in 1989, where he was employed at UND. Veronica preceded him in death on April 26, 2008.  He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817, the Grand Forks Police Reserve and served on the board of directors for the East Grand Forks Rod and Gun Club.  He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing.

He is survived by, his sons, George (Tina) LaMora, Phoenix, Christopher Harrison, Wash.; daughters, Racquel (Steve) Bunney, Burlington, Wash., Veronica (Marc) DeMers, East Grand Forks, Minn.; brothers, Terry LaMora, Madrid, N.Y., Michael LaMora, Canton, N.Y., Gerald (Linda) LaMora, Waddington, N.Y., Patrick LaMora, Ogdensburg, N.Y., David (Sharley) LaMora, Beaverton, Ore., William (Theresa) LaMora, Hillsboro, Ore.; sisters, Gloria (Kevin) Barkley, Massena, N.Y., Jacqueline LaMora, Norwood, N.Y.; grandchildren, Javier, Kaya, Dominic, Connor, Anisa, Mitra, Linden and Cecelia.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Veronica.
