Remembering Ray Tozer

CMSGT Raymond G. Tozer, Sr. (Ret.), 83, of Thompson, N.D. passed away Aug. 12, 2013, at his home in Thompson. He was the retired maintenance and project coordinator at Facilities Management.

Raymond George Tozer was born May 17, 1930 in Detroit to Leonard and Marie (Steenssens) Tozer, Sr.

Raymond enlisted into the United States Air Force at the age of 17 and served our country proudly for 22 years. He served in the Korean War and retired and was honorably discharged from military service on July 31, 1970. Following his retirement, he was employed with the Campus Police Department and later with Plant Services at the University of North Dakota.  He worked at UND for 21 years, retiring in 1992.

Raymond married Rosemary Kane on July 24, 1954, in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, East Grand Forks. They traveled with the military before settling in East Grand Forks with their four children. Rosemary preceded him in death on May 19, 2000.

Raymond is survived by his children, Raymond (Cathey), Thompson, Liz (Todd) Basgaard, East Grand Forks, MaryDawn (Troy) Coulter, Thompson,  John (Lori), Thompson; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sisters, Jeanne Warren, St. Petersburg Beach, Fla., Joan (William) O’Halloran, St. Petersburg, Fla., Helen Tozer, Woodstock, Ga, MarieAnn Poplawski, Warren, Mich.; sisters-in-law, Dorothy (Leonard) Tozer, Greenville, N.C., Ruth (Richard) Tozer, Warren, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; brothers, Leonard, Edward, Richard; brother-in-law, Troy Warren; sister-in-law, Patricia (Edward) Tozer; a granddaughter and a great- granddaughter.

Military Honors: Accorded by Grand Forks Air Force Base Honor Guard, American Legion Post 157 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3817.
