UND researchers hit milestone in rare-earth minerals production

Efforts by UND researchers to transform the state into a hub to produce rare earth elements (REEs) and critical minerals (CMs) continue to move forward, and the pilot production facility, located off Mill Road in Grand Forks, has begun to produce concentrated mixtures of the compounds.
Last spring, UND’s Office of Research and Economic Development established the Early Career Scholars Program (ECSP), a project designed to kick-start the careers of researchers transitioning from Ph.D. and postdoc programs to full-time faculty. Hallie Chelmo and Bo Liang, College of Engineering & Mines faculty elected as Early Career Scholars, presented their findings and updates on future funding opportunities in front of an audience of their peers.
Anjali Sandip receives NSF grant to study melting glaciers

Anjali Sandip, a senior lecturer in UND’s Department of Mechanical Engineering, has received a National Science Foundation grant that will help her and her colleagues study the impact on sea levels of melting Antarctic ice sheets.
Ryan Adams, associate dean of national security and professor in the College of Engineering and Mines, said UAS is vital to several research initiatives on campus. Among them is the transportation technology research initiative, a partnership between UND and the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT).
