Early Career Awards highlight research of budding scholars

Last spring, UND’s Office of Research and Economic Development established the Early Career Scholars Program (ECSP), a project designed to kick-start the careers of researchers transitioning from Ph.D. and postdoc programs to full-time faculty. Hallie Chelmo and Bo Liang, College of Engineering & Mines faculty elected as Early Career Scholars, presented their findings and updates on future funding opportunities in front of an audience of their peers.

The University of North Dakota’s Lunabotics Team has once again demonstrated their exceptional problem-solving skills and dedication as they secured remarkable achievements at this year’s annual Lunabotics Challenge, organized by NASA. The student-led team clinched the second runner-up position, earning recognition for their ingenuity and technical expertise.

Minnkota engineers with UND students

In the spirit of making life a little sweeter, the winners of the 2023 Andrew Freeman Design Innovation Competition created a contraption called the “Batter Shaker,” which shakes cake batter on a platform to remove bubbles that cause voids in a cake. The four-person team of University of North Dakota (UND) engineering students responded to a request from a national company to develop the appliance. They impressed the competition sponsors at Minnkota with their simple ingenuity and teamwork and were awarded the $2,000 prize for demonstrating the innovative spirit of Minnkota’s first leader.
