MS1: Welcome to Class of 2026 from Dr. Porter

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome the medical student Class of 2026 to our School of Medicine & Health Sciences. I am very excited for all of you as you start your journey to becoming a physician. I’m excited because as I told you at your White Coat Ceremony, my daughter Jill was also starting her training when she started medical school right here at UND almost 15 years ago.  Expectations are high all around, but remember, you deserve to be here because the Admissions Committee invited you to start medical school from almost 2,000 initial applications. Your job is now to follow the curriculum plan the faculty has carefully designed, prepare yourself for success by eating your pancakes every day, doing your best when it comes time to perform for the assessment, then, finally, appropriately celebrating your success for passing the examination. I would like to remind you that asking for help is not a sign of weakness, but instead is a valuable life skill. Therefore, as you go through this journey the Office of Student Affairs & Admissions is here for you anytime, so don’t hesitate to reach out with your questions using saa@UND.edu or by calling 701.777.4221. See below for the staff member who can help you in the area in question, asnd know that I am always available for any support or questions you may have at james.porter@UND.edu. I also have open office hours via my Calendly account.
