Class of 2027

Medical Student Performance Evaluation

You will have a chance to view the first draft of your MSPE before it becomes finalized. The timeline has not yet been determined, but we’re hoping you’ll have the first draft by the end of August. Once you receive your draft, please review it in a timely manner. The sooner the draft is approved and final changes are made, the sooner it will be downloaded to the residency application service you are applying through. Your Phase 2 campus dean will receive a link to review the draft as well. Be assured that your documents will be downloaded prior to Sept. 23, 2026, the date that residencies can begin to review your applications.

Remember that the comments from each of your clerkships will be taken from the summative comments area of your LEO evaluations verbatim. If you have any comments from your clerkship evaluations that you don’t agree with, you must contact the preceptor to have them officially changed in LEO. Other than punctuation or simple grammar changes, we cannot change the content of the written evaluations without the preceptor’s permission. Please do so now rather than a month from now to ensure a timely result.

Information regarding the MSPE grades for the M.D. Class of 2027:

  • Phase 3 electives in periods 1, 2, and 3 will need to be uploaded to LEO by Aug. 14, 2026, at the very latest to be included in your MSPE. Be aware that Period 3 grades may not be completed by the deadline.
  • In keeping with the AAMC recommendations to provide an honest and objective assessment of the student’s performance relative to their peers for their MSPE or Dean’s Letter, the SMHS uses ranking terms to compare Phase 2 grade percentages between other students in their graduating class. The ranking terms are the following:
    • the top 15% = Outstanding
    • the next 20% = Excellent
    • the next 40% = Very Good
    • the next 20% = Good
    • the next 5% = Satisfactory

Students who require an MSPE for their residency application in any graduating class are compared only with students who have been promoted to Phase 3 and will be entering the Match during the academic year they are graduating. Therefore, the rankings will be fair and transparent to residency program directors as the comparisons will be made between only those students who will be submitting their residency applications and have completed their Phase 2 clerkship requirements.

You should have received an email link to sign a release of information (ROI) via DocuSign. In order for your MSPE and unofficial transcript to be uploaded to ERAS or other application service you are applying through, you must complete the ROI. Please do so immediately to eliminate any delays.
