Remembering Susan Kuntz

Susan Jane Kuntz, former assistant professor of physician assistant studies, 64, of East Grand Forks, Minn., passed away unexpectedly at home on Saturday, Aug. 12, 2023.

Susan Jane Crawford was born on June 25, 1959, in Burbank, IL, the daughter of Herb and Glada (White) Crawford. Sue graduated from Reavis High School and then received her BS in Medical Technology in 1981 from Louisiana State University. She earned an MS in Microbiology and Immunology in 1989 and a PhD in Educational Leadership in 2004, both at the University of North Dakota.

Sue married Jeff Norkus in June 1978 and they had two sons, Jacob and Daniel. Sue started her career in the medical profession in Shreveport, LA, continuing in Fairbanks, AK. In 1987, Sue moved to Grand Forks, ND and began working at the North Dakota State Mill while continuing her education at the University of North Dakota.

She met and later married Dan Kuntz on May 30, 1992, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Grand Forks, ND. She was employed as the Medical Laboratory Technician Program Director at Northwest Technical College for three years. She then was employed as an Assistant Professor in the Physician Assistant Studies Program at the University of North Dakota Medical School for 15 years and as a Microbiology Supervisor at Altru Health System for eight years. Sue retired in 2018 due to medical reasons. Sue enjoyed quilting, spending time with family, traveling, fishing, and trips to Florida to see her cousins.

Sue is survived by her husband, Dan; her sons, Jake (Kim), Bottineau, ND and Danny (Ryan), Mountain Home, ID; her stepchildren, Kelly (Pete), Fargo, ND and John (Natasha), Champlin, MN and 8 grandchildren, Anna, Olivia, Morgan, Jimmy, Trevor, Dalton, Liam and Henry. She is survived by many in-laws, relatives, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Glada and her father, Herb.

Memorial Mass: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 17, 2023, at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.

Family Greeting: 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 16, 2023, with a 7:00 p.m. vigil service in the Historic Norman Funeral Home Chapel. Family Greeting will continue for one hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Thursday.

Interment: Calvary North Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
