Remembering Darin Kerr

Darin Douglas Kerr, former UND instructor, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 28, at his childhood home.

He was born in Landstuhl, West Germany, on May 5, 1972, to Ralph and Sandi Kerr

He attended elementary school at Grand Forks Air Force Base until third grade when he transferred to Kelly Elementary in Grand Forks. He went on to Schroeder and Red River from which he graduated in 1990. He graduated from UND in 1994 with a double major in theatre and English. He went on to receive a Ph.D. from Bowling Green State University in theatre. He was an instructor for a time at UND in Integrated Studies. He was manager at a Barnes and Noble store at the time of becoming ill.

Darin had three great passions in his life – the theatre, movies, and books. His favorite was theatre, however. There were so many productions over the years that it would be impossible to name them all.  Some of his roles included Javert in “Les Misérables”, Tevye in “Fiddler on the Roof”, the Emcee in ”Cabaret”, and the Baker in “Into the Woods”.

Darin is preceded in death by his father, Ralph Kerr; his grandparents, Allyn and Jean Botz, Millard and  Mary Kerr.

He is survived by his mother, Sandra Kerr; his brother, Tim (Dawn) Kerr; nephews Jordan (Whitney) Kerr and Ryan Kerr (Bekah, fiancée); as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.

The memorial service will be held Oct. 7, 2023, at First Presbyterian Church in Grand Forks, N.D. Visitation is at 1 p.m. Memorial service is at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Hospice of the Red River Valley.
