Remembering Maureen Parkin
Maureen Ann Parkin, retired UND Print Center staff member, 77, of East Grand Forks, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 19, 2023, at Edgewood Vista of East Grand Forks.
Maureen Ann Quirk was born August 10, 1946, in Grand Forks, N.D. to Earl and Loretta (Harrison) Quirk. She grew up in Fisher until the family moved to East Grand Forks. They attended school and were members of Sacred Heart where she graduated from in 1965. After high school, Maureen moved to Colorado before returning home and working at Olson Drug. On September 13, 1980, Maureen married Wayne Parkin at Sacred Heart in East Grand Forks. Together they purchased her family home in East Grand Forks and started their family and were blessed with two daughters, Michele and Jennifer. Maureen began working in the duplicating office and mail room at UND in 1979 and worked there until her retirement in 2011. They enjoyed camping in the summer in the Bemidji area with some neighbors who became like family. She enjoyed having bonfires at the house and gathering with friends and family. She loved taking her dogs for walks. In the summer she could be found tending to her flower beds and vegetable garden. Maureen was an avid Vikings and NASCAR fan. In later years she enjoyed playing with her two grandsons.
Maureen is survived by her daughters Michele (Chris) Rice of Grand Forks, N.D., Jennifer (Corey) Bos of Harwood, N.D.; four grandchildren, Greyson, Bennett and Kolton Rice and Olivia Bos; brother, Pat (Jan) Quirk of Osseo, WI as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne Parkin, parents Earl and Loretta Quirk, grandson Aiden, and nephew Gregory Quirk.
VISITATION: 5-7 p.m., Thursday, October 12, 2023, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m. at Dahl Funeral Home, 2029 Central Ave. NW, East Grand Forks, MN 56721. Visitation will also be held one hour before the Mass at the church on Friday.
