Revised Campus Map Improves Usability and Accessibility
UND launched a revised Google Campus Map designed to make navigating campus easier for students, employees and visitors.
This six-month project was a collaboration between Marketing & Communications, University Information Technology and Parking & Transportation. The updates focus on simplifying how information is presented while adding features people rely on most when finding buildings and parking.
Here are the biggest changes you’ll notice:
Clearer Building Identification
Building names are now displayed directly on the map as text overlays, making locations easier to spot at a glance. Campus restaurants located inside buildings are also included.
Building types like academic, athletics and auxiliary buildings are now grouped into a single building category with one color. Previously, multiple colors and categories created visual clutter and made the map harder to read. The streamlined approach improves readability and helps users find locations faster.
Added Parking Information
Parking lots and permit types are now included directly on the campus map. This update was completed in close coordination with the Parking Office to ensure accuracy, especially for campus visitors. Over time, these enhancements will reduce reliance on inaccessible PDF parking maps and provide a more consistent and mobile-friendly experience.
Accessibility Features Highlighted
Accessible parking spaces and building entrances are now clearly marked. This supports UND’s LEADS Equity strategic priority and helps ensure the campus map works for everyone, including those who depend on accessibility information to plan their visit.
Check for Accuracy
Building labels, images, descriptions and addresses are audited annually. If you notice any inaccurate information, please email Aimee Halstenson at aimee.halstenson@UND.edu.
