On April 12, Jefferson Tester, Professor of Sustainable Energy Systems at Cornell University, will be the next Leading Edge of Earth & Planetary Sciences Lecture Series (LEEPS) guest speaker at UND. At 12:15 p.m. in Leonard Hall, Room 109, Dr. Tester will present his presentation, “How advances in subsurface science and engineering will accelerate the development of geothermal district heating.”

UND has been designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Research (CAE-R) institution through 2029. This marks the first time the University has received such a designation and comes on the heels of increased cybersecurity research projects on campus.

UND is a busy and active place, so much so that there’s a tendency to take events such as the recent Graduate Research Achievement Day for granted.

This spring, UND’s Energy Sovereignty for Indigenous People (ESIP) Global Initiative is sponsoring workshops via Zoom that are open to all UND faculty and graduate students.

On April 5, energy entrepreneur Mike Umbro will be the next Leading Edge of Earth & Planetary Sciences Lecture Series (LEEPS) guest speaker at UND. In the Leonard Hall Lecture Bowl (Room 100), Mike will be presenting two afternoon presentations.

For the 13th year in a row, UND will open its doors to students and parents across from all around North Dakota for the state’s largest high school STEM fair, set for April 4-5, 2024 in the Memorial Union.

While a VEX Robotics team is new to UND campus, Thea is no stranger to the competition series. She’s been involved with middle and high school teams for a long time — and still is. While she competes at the collegiate-level on UND’s VEX-U team, she and her teammates help mentor middle and high school teams in the community.

Graduate students serve up high-speed summaries of their research during the 2024 Three Minute Thesis competition.

Students, faculty/staff, and the Greater Grand Forks community are invited to help with this important process in bringing these fossils ‘to life’. No prior experience or tools are necessary, and you do not need to be affiliated with UND to participate – all are welcome!

By winter 2025, pending fundraising and a cleared site, work will begin on a new complex hosting science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) teaching and research facilities. The proposed complex will bring together several labs spread throughout multiple buildings.
