November wellness tips from Michelle Montgomery

Check out these fall wellness tips from SMHS Wellness Coordinator, Michelle Montgomery!

Stay hydrated: Adequate hydration is important for your immune function, skin radiance, mood and energy levels.

Take Vitamin D3: As we begin to spend more time indoors and the days become shorter, it’s important to maintain Vitamin D levels to keep bones strong and treat and/or prevent other diseases. Eat some eggs, salmon, cheese, fortified cereal – these are all good sources!

Pay attention to the air: Drier air with less humidity can affect both skin and respiratory conditions. A humidifier can help with dry skin, chapped lips or congestion.

Boost your immunity: As a defense against bacteria, viruses, and other little things that make us sick, be sure to exercise regularly, stay hydrated, get ample sleep, eat balanced meals, and manage stress levels. And don’t forget to wash your hands!

Read a book: Winter months are perfect for diving into a book and sipping a warm drink! What’s your go to favorite? Join or create a book club as a social outlet.

Workout: Find a go-to workout to download when it’s too cold to go outdoors to keep your exercise routine on track.

Be Grateful: November is Gratitude Month, and of course Thanksgiving! Research shows that those who practice gratitude have higher satisfaction in their relationships, work-life balance, and an increase in resilience. Keep a journal, meditate, serve others or volunteer to maintain a practice of gratitude.
