Welcoming Fresh Faces to Our Team

We are delighted to introduce three outstanding individuals who have recently become integral parts of the UND Office of Human Resources.

Each brings a unique set of skills and experiences that enhance the diverse tapestry of our workplace.

Shannon Nord, Recruiting Assistant

Last December, Shannon Nord stepped into the role of Recruiting Assistant, reporting to Hannah Whalen, Recruiting Manager. With 12 years in accounting and 9 years in administrative services, she brings a wealth of knowledge to the position. Shannon’s role will include managing criminal history background checks as well as providing essential support for recruitment processes. Shannon’s dedication and expertise promise to elevate the Recruiting Team’s services.

Jolene (Joie) Stangland, Human Resources Assistant

February 21, Human Resources welcomed Joie Stangland as the Facilities Human Resources Assistant, reporting to Corbyn Bjerk, Human Resources Manager for Facilities. She brings 14 years of office administration experience and is taking on the responsibility of HR and payroll support, overseeing recruitment processes, coordinating training initiatives, and ensuring seamless onboarding experiences for new hires. Joie will also continue the role’s responsibility of orienting Facilities’ new hires through training initiatives.

Karyn Vasek, Human Resources Specialist for Academic Affairs

Transitioning from her role in the College of Arts & Sciences, Karyn Vasek now serves as our Human Resources Specialist for Academic Affairs. As of March 4, Karyn will report to Becca Bergee, Director of Human Resources for Academic Affairs. With a wealth of experience in administration and office management, Karyn brings crucial skills and depth to our team to provide HR & Payroll support. Karyn will assist in H-1 B petitions and applications for permanent residency for faculty and staff, while facilitating faculty processes, such as tenure calculations.
