Whether you have a department update, important reminders, or exciting events to share, there are multiple channels to help get your message out. Below is a guide on how to use each of UND’s communication methods to ensure your message reaches the right audience.
Newsletters: Share Your Story with the UND Community
UND’s blogs are a great way to share and read stories, updates, and insights with the entire UND community. For more information on how to submit content, visit UND Blogs. Each blog serves a specific purpose and campus community. Whether it’s academic achievements, departmental updates, or campus news, blogs allow you to connect directly with the community in a meaningful way. We highly recommend subscribing to UND Today, UND’s official news source, as well as the U Letter – UND’s faculty and staff newsletter.

Staff Chat: Connect with Colleagues
If your message is specifically geared toward UND staff members, Staff Chat is the ideal platform. This list does not reach all staff – it hits approximately 1,100 voluntary subscribers, all of whom have opted in to receive updates about campus social events, surplus/in search of equipment, contests. To reach this group, simply email STAFFCHAT@LISTSERV.NODAK.EDU with your submission. Staff Chat is where employees go to connect to campus. Submissions are moderated. HRMS Users: Update on HRMS Topics
For topics related to HRMS (Human Resources Management System) usage. These are UND employees who work specifically with the HRMS system and communicate updates on HRMS usage, payroll reminders, and other related news. Submissions are exclusive to the Office of Human Resources. Learn how to subscribe to this listserv.

Benefited Employees: News Impacting our Hawks at Work
If your announcement concerns a majority of campus employees, use the Benefited Employees list, which reaches all of UND’s ~2,700 benefited staff and faculty members. This list is moderated, meaning all submissions are reviewed before distribution. Topics include benefits updates, perks, job search announcements, and events exclusive to benefited employees. The “While You Were Working” and “New Hawks at Work” newsletters reach these individuals. To submit content, email UND-BENEFITED-EMPLOYEES@LISTSERV.NODAK.EDU.
All Employees: Important Campus-Wide Information
For messages that need to reach all ~6,100 UND employees, use this platform for vital information related to campus or safety updates. This list is also moderated by the HR Office, and topics typically include important notices about campus-wide initiatives or safety procedures. Submissions come from UND Offices such as the Office of Human Resources or the Office of Safety.
Supervisors: Keep Managers Informed
If your communication is targeted toward supervisors, you’ll want to use the Supervisors listserv, which updates those who supervise employees. This list can be tiered to all those who supervise, or more commonly, those who supervise benefited employees. The “Leading Hawks at Work” newsletter reaches these individuals. This list is moderated by HR and includes information specifically related to performance evaluations, employee support, and supervision best practices.
