Delegating Approvals
Delegating approvals allows supervisors and departments flexibility.
Manager Self-Service (MSS) provides supervisors the ability to delegate their rights to approve to another UND employee. This may be necessary if a department’s process route approvals through one central person, such as a department administrator. When a delegation is given, the delegator (you) loses access to whatever right(s) they have delegated to someone else (the delegee).
Many areas have one person manage their time & labor approvals or approve absences within MSS (provided the employee has already visited with their supervisor).
If the delegee reports to the delegator, the default approval will be the delegator’s supervisor. Any approvals that would otherwise have routed to the delegator now route to the delegee, or the delegator’s supervisor. Any access the delegator otherwise would have had to approve requests is lost, although they will still receive communications and be noted as the supervisor of those submitting for approval. When necessary, the delegator may need to forward payroll communication to the delegee to ensure approvals are completed prior to any deadlines.
