Demand for COVID-19 notifications across the UND website is strong. To quickly address needs, we issued a post on how to use the available alert snippet. The alert snippet is a universally accepted color system used to report technical issues for systems such as Blackboard, Campus Connection etc. After consultation with UIT, it was determined this alert needed to remain exclusively used for technical systems.
A new COVID-19 snippet was created for important notifications related to COVID-19 and is available to all OmniUpdate users. It applies an automatic COVID-19 header which helps users identify these important notifications side-wide. The snippet is limited to 500 characters; which was necessary because users were putting entire welcome messages/letters in the alert. Paragraphs of text is not appropriate because it takes attention away from a critical notice. Some appropriate use examples include:
- The UND Wellness Center is closed until further notice.
- Zoom appointments are available for counseling services. No in-person sessions are being scheduled.
- The UND Library is now open. New hours of operation are 8 a.m. – 10:30 p.m.
The new snippet is named COVID-19 Alert in the snippet menu. Please see more instructions for alert use.
